Our Story
The organization was established as a single united voice for police executives in 1983 and was originally called the Iowa Police Executive Forum (IPEF). The motto, “The Voice of Iowa Chiefs of Police” remains prominent in our brand. Renamed in 2009 to the Iowa Police Chiefs Association (IPCA), the organizations mission is to foster a meaningful exchange of ideas through open discussion, research and evaluation of critical law enforcement issues. The Iowa Police Chiefs Association (IPCA) works with other state and national law enforcement and public safety associations to promote professional standards within the state of Iowa.

Become a Member
The Iowa Police Chiefs Association has several membership options! Full members are the Chief Executive Officer of a Law Enforcement Agency in the State of Iowa, including Division Heads of State Agencies and Special Agents in Charge (SAC) or designee of Federal Law Enforcement agencies operating in the State of Iowa. Associate members are those who are not the Chief Executive Officer but are sponsored by a full member. In 2023 the Iowa Police Chiefs Association and the Iowa Sheriffs and Deputies Association partnered for the development of the Iowa Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP). Iowa is only one of approximately a dozen states that does not currently have a state accreditation program for law enforcement.
